There is a lush rolling hiking trail that runs around the entire coast line of Devon and Cornwall. Our scenic day hikes wind along the grassy footpath where waves and wind have battered the coastal cliffs into a dramatic wild beauty; fresh sea-air, wildflowers, heather and ferns fill the nostrils and enliven the soul. We will traverse down the granite cliffs on steps that drop a hundred feet or more to secluded coves, beaches and tide pools and muse on misty legends of smugglers, shipwrecks and King Arthur. We will explore on easy, or challenging day hikes, the great wilderness Tors of Dartmoor, that offers 500 sq. miles of hiking and riding trails and a fascinating history of Anglo-Saxon settlements and Druids ancient stone circles, that goes back to earliest times. The various natural habitats on the moor are home to numerous species of flora and fauna. Some of the local residents are Dartmoor ponies and thick fleeced sheep that roam in all weather. This region of England is rich in folklore and history, with historical landmarks of King Arthur's castle and a Celtic monastery founded about AD 400, Merlin's Cave, Sir Francis Drake's home of Plymouth and the pirate town of Penzance. We will explore the Roman Bath and town of Exeter, including the Gothic Exeter Cathedral that began construction in the six century.
